Temakinho. Japan meets Brasil

temaki

I read about this new spot in Monti in a couple of my favourite blogs and all were enthusiastic. So I decided I really had to try it and off we went with a couple of friends. I liked it so much that I went back yesterday with George: he adored it as well!

What is it all about? Brasil has a strong connection with Japan as a big Japanese communitity is now integrated part of the Country. So it is natural that one cuisine has influenced the other. Tamakinho offers a selection of the best row fish you can find in town together with caipirinhas that have nothing to envy to the original Brasilian sisters. The Company has opened the Roman brench to follow the big success of the two Milan based ones.

The choice is among salmon, tuna, crab and sea bass (all raw) and you can have them in rolls or in temaki style, a cone of algae lined with a a small amount of rice and a huge amount of the chosen fish. Temaki come medium and large (which is a loooooot). Eating temaki can be a bit messy but it is a lot of fun. They come with some wooden gripper if you want to look more professional (and less “I am starving” style).

Other delicacies in the menu are different kind of cheviche (raw fish marinated in lime) and fish carpaccio, all with different kind of fish, a choice of spices and vegatables but all very simple and fresh. They guarantee the ice chain treatment for the fish, to make it safe.

And to go with your meal wonderful caipirinha (they come in different mix) or Brasilian beer. Don’t like alcohol? Tropical fruit juices will make you conscience feel better:)

Prices are very honest, the service is friendly and quick and the music is ….. guess …. samba!

Only one small negative point: you need to book in advance via mail or through a phone number in Milan and you get a strong guideline on arrival time (after 15 minutes delay you loose your reservation) and departure time (2 hrs after).

But in the end, how many temaki can you eat in two hours?  Time is fairly enough.

Try, it is really worth it.
