Last summer with my husband we wanted a holiday destination to get out of the heat that was terrible in Rome. So we decided for a cruise in the Nordic fjords.
As we do not like noisy ships we decided for Silversea who has smaller and quitter ships perfect for quiet adults. I really recommend them as the ships are smaller than others, have very good cabins and perfect service. We sailed on Silver Dawn.
We sailed from Copenhagen then we went to Stevanger, Alesund, Trondheim, Geiranger (which was the highlight as it is the fjord we dream of), Flam, Bergen, Kristiansand and Skagen ending back in Copenhagen. In all ports the organization is perfect and you can choose from a list of excursions part of which are included like it is for all extras on board. The cruise is not chip but as I said all in included even drinks!
It was a very nice experience and we had the chance to have fantastic fresh fish ashore on our own.
Some addresses: in Bergen the Fish market where you can eat fantastic shrimps and crab, in Copenhagen the famous Noma, but you need to book very in advance, otherwise Barr on the waterfront, simpler but good.
In Flam do not miss the train journey that goes up to Myrdal and back with stop at Kjosfossen waterfall. Incredible scenery.
It was a fantastic and relaxing week. We also stayed 3 additional days in Copenhagen that added a plus to the holiday. You can have a good shopping trip for design elements for the house or fashion clothes in Nordic style (see Marimeco).
We were so happy that we have already booked another cruise for October 25 in Japan. So stay tuned because I will keep you in the loop.
