Passage in Corsica

Hello! Back from vacation and 3 relaxing weeks in Corsica. I know, I wrote already about it last year but now I have some new tips in case you happen to go there. The area I know and return to is in the South, between Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio, two very nice locations.

Do not miss Palombaggia Beach, transparent water and white sand. Among the various beach restaurants scattered along the Palombaggia sands south of Porto-Vecchio, Tamaricciu has that hip St-Tropez-chic touch. With its wooden decking terrace and first-class views of the turquoise surf, dining really does not get better than this. Cuisine is Mediterranean, with lots of grilled fish, meat dishes and pasta, all beautifully presented. The lunchtime menu also includes pizza served bubbling hot from the oven.

And now to food, which is one of the things I appreciate more.

I have three favourites.

On Plage de Maora, Le Gregale is well worth the detour. This is the place towards which all heads turn when it comes to tasting the freshest of fish. Depending on the daily catch, the menu may feature John Dory, sea bream, sea bass… and lobster. It’s a family affair, with Dad (the cook) and two sons (fishermen and waiters). Another draw is the rustic-chic setting, with blond-wood furniture and beams.

The second is a new entry of this year. A new opening in Porto Vecchio where the new places are rare. A family where the father and son fish by day and cook the fish in the evening and the mother puts all the care and kindness in service. The menu focuses on fresh fish, if they do not catch they will not open. Fish soup and an excellent bass scream combined with kindness and a unique cleaness. A round of applause to the initiative and good will as well as the attention to quality.

And now the third. We return there every year because the fish is good but also beacuse you can get the best sunset in the Mediterranean while confortably seated. On the sea 15 minutes from Bonifacio it is in the area of an ex Tonnara, isolated and with a wonderful view. Their speciality is lobster, but my favourite is their soupe de poisson, rich in lobster, really wonderful. This year I was there with a group of Corsican friends and we had a giant fish coocked in salt and it was really delicious.

My last tip for today is around shopping, my second favourite activity. La Taillerie du Corail is the shop of a family who works the coral and produces very nice jewelery in gold and silver. It is artisanal work, but very creative. You can choose among a big quantity on offer and with all level of prices. You can also buy online at www.bijouxmrm.com

A unique chance to become happy owner of a jewel in coral at affordable prices (like I did this year :)))

I will leave you now to dream of going there very soon. I just came back but I would like to still be there.
